Hello, beauty enthusiasts! This is my very first blog post, and I'm excited to start this journey with everyone. For over ten years, skincare has been more than just a hobby for me; it's evolved into an exciting adventure filled with trials, triumphs, and radiant skin.... and now a blog!
In this post, I'll share a bit about my current skincare routine using budget-friendly products. I want to clarify that these are purely my personal opinions—no sponsorships involved! I am no expert, but I can tell you whether something shows results or not. Think of this blog as your no-fluff, straight-to-the-point guide. The kind of resource I always wished existed when I just wanted honest answers. My goal is simple: to help fellow skincare lovers discover affordable, effective gems that truly elevate their routines — and to create a space where you can relax, sip your latte, and maybe save a little money along the way.
My Skincare Philosophy
I started Soft Skin Strong Coffee to help others navigate skincare without the stress. After years of dealing with skin struggles (and spending too much money), I learned that great skin doesn’t have to be expensive; and with so many options available, it can be overwhelming.
As a now busy stay-at-home mom, I understand the importance of finding affordable options that deliver results. Skincare should be a pleasurable experience, not a stressful obligation. And with so many options out there and so many influencers throwing products at you, how do you truly know what works? I'm eager to share my opinions that can help make your skincare journey enjoyable and effective.
Why Affordable Skincare?
Spending a fortune on products that may not deliver just isn’t practical. That’s not to say all high-end brands aren’t worth it — trust me, there are plenty I’d happily repurchase if I could. And yes, I can recommend some of those too. But my mission here is to spotlight affordable skincare that delivers real results — helping you achieve that healthy, youthful glow without draining your wallet.
With countless products available at local drugstores, you can easily find budget-friendly alternatives to high-end brand names. From hydrating moisturizers to effective serums and toners, my aim is to help you discover options that not only make you feel and look your best, but exude confidence!
And as I’ll probably mention in every post — these are my honest opinions based on products I’ve actually used. In fact, most of them were originally recommended by dermatologists or other trusted experts.
My Skincare Routine: Current Affordable Gems for Glowing Skin
I’m kicking things off strong by sharing MY current daily routine — in order — and the products I’m using right now.
Vitamin-C Serum: Timeless Skincare 20% VITAMIN C + E FERULIC ACID SERUM
Did you know it's actually a dupe for SkinCeuticals and Dr. Brenner?? 🤩 That was almost enough for me.
I cannot tell you how many vitamin-C serums I have tried (most recommended by influencers) . I can make another post on all the products I've tried and didn't like next.
I might be contradicting myself saying this now, but I watched at least two Board Certified Dermatologists (Dr. Dray, Dr. Idriss) recommended this on social media. If you don't care, or that ain't good enough for you, that's ok . I THEN did my own research ond eventually came to the conculsion to try it. So you should try it 🙂 Do your own research first.
I almost forgot, the price! I bought this at Target for $25.99
I can say, I know this can be expensive to some, me included - but this is a product I recommend because I HAVE been seeing results (remember, I'm currently using this) 😉. Most vitamin-C serums as well as creams I have tried, never gave me any visual appearance of "glowy, brighter, even toned skin" results they should. I can see my face finally seems brighter, healthier even - Like I can tell it is contributing to protecting my skin barrier, if that makes sense. Feels nice, in a protected bottle so it won't "degrade" from the light. Ready to purchase another bottle!
Serum: Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum
This baby is only $6! I bought mine at Ulta, but you can get it at Target, Amazon, etc. Pairs great with a vitamin-C serum! As per Google "Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can help brighten skin and protect against sun damage, while niacinamide can improve skin texture, reduce redness, and minimize pores." I like the texture on my skin and it absorbs well. I have rosacea, so evening out my skin-tone is a harder, more complicated process, but I can see improvements in everything else. Definitely a great try for beginners, simpletons, etc. and again, it's $6. If you don't like it, just think it's the same price as the matcha latte you're sipping on. ☕️
3. Toner/Serum: Byoma Hydrating Milky Toner
Serum: SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule
I always have to be a little extra. No one has to have this laundry list of steps in their routine. I have seen most people recommend the less, the better. But I have to always try try try new stuff - its my thing. 🤓 I go back and forth on a couple of products during this step. Why? Because I can and so can you! Another tip, don't let this get so complicated. A lot of people get so worried "am I doing these products in the correct order" among other things. I did my own little research and per some more Dermatologists (@Dermguru), the in-between doesn't matter that much. As long as you have a good moisurizer and put some sun screen on last, everything else is extra. And we can be extra sometimes, so let's do it.
Toner: Good for sensitive skin. Great texture, feels good on the skin, nice under makeup.
$16 at Ulta, $15 at Target. I have heard others compare it to Rhode Glazing Milk. I have not tried that product yet, but I can assume they both are "milky". Do your own research and let me know. Side note: Byoma has many more great skincare products, check them out! https://amzn.to/4lzh3Gq
Serum: This popular number is designed to soothe, calm, and hydrate the skin. It can be paired with a toner, so when I'm feeling in need of more hydration, I'll include this. I love Korean skincare. I can make a whole new post on their skincare lines alone. This helps with irritation, redness, and promotes collagen. $18 full price at Target, cheaper options available on Amazon: https://amzn.to/4ljIjZQ
4. Moisturizer: COSRX Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream
This stuff saved my skin! This is my go-to especially in the winter. I really enjoy this moisturizer even enough to go back to in-between my trials on others. The texture is very creamy, almost thick glue-like, but no stickiness! Don't get it twisted. It leaves your face dewy with a nice sheen and very hydrated - you can feel it melting in your skin. Highly recommened.

$25 at Ulta. If you want to check, I have found this at Marshalls and TJ MAXX multiple times on sale. Again, Korean Skincare for the win. I would compare this to Neutrogena's hydro boost (which I love as well). Different textures, but same results.
5. Sunscreen: E.L.F. Suntouchable Whoa Glow Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen
This is a great drugstore option in my opinion. This sunscreen is simple, to the point, non-greasy, and leaves a nice glow with no white cast. It isn't too thick, which means easy application and it can help with your makeup longevity. And to top it off, it has additional skincare benefits: Fragrance free, contains aloe, HA, and squalane.
This sunscreen runs for $14 at Ulta, You can get the mini on E.L.F Cosmetics website for $5 as well as Target! No excuse to try it out with that price. The dewy glow is probably my favorite part - the description online says it has a "hint of sheer peach shimmer for a natural, radiant glow". I do not wear makeup everyday as I am at home a lot, but knowing I am protected playing outside with the kids and can go out wearing a simple glow, no makeup needed! ✔️
